March Sees Steady Growth in Job Openings

Today, Simply Hired released its April 2014 U.S. Employment Outlook report. Job openings increased 5.1% month-over-month in March and were up 27.5% over the same time last year. After February 2014 saw a 4.6% increase in job openings in this indicates continued steady job growth nationwide.

“There continue to be exciting, new possibilities for job seekers who want to take the next big step in their careers,” said James Beriker, CEO of Simply Hired. “Based on our data, the opportunities continue to grow for job seekers who are motivated and inspired to seize the job they really want.”

Job openings increase in two-thirds of all industries

In March 2014, 12 industries saw job openings increase. Government (25.2%) and real estate (8.4%) showed the largest gains, while healthcare (-9.9%) and hospitality (-8.6%) saw decreases during this period.

More jobs open up in almost every occupation

Nearly all occupation categories (21 out of 23) experienced growth in job openings in March 2014. Journalists and media worker (46.0%) and manufacturing worker (19.4%) roles experienced the largest amount of growth month-over-month, while doctors, nurses, therapist and technician (-3.1%) roles faced the largest decline during this time period.
