Simply Hired Named to Top 100 Websites

Top100Icon4 WEDDLES, the largest publisher of guides to employment websites on the Internet, recently released it’s 2009/2010 guide, in which Simply Hired was named as a Top 100 site in the online employment industry.

“Our Top 100 employment sites are the elite of the job board industry,” says WEDDLE’s Publisher Peter Weddle.  “They have the strongest brands, the best services and the most distinguished track records of the sites we’ve seen on the Web.  Are there other good sites out there?  Of course.  But the Top 100 selectees are truly in a class of their own.”

The site selection methodology included a comprehensive review of information submitted by the sites describing their features, services and fees as well as information provided by job seekers, employers and recruiters who have used the site.  In addition, each site was visited to assess its user experience and level of maintenance.

Gautam Named Among Silicon Valley’s Most Influential Under 40

In the Silicon Valley / San Jose Business Journal today, Gautam is listed as one of Silicon Valley’s rising stars. Despite receiving more than 150 nominations, the Business Journal narrowed down the list to 40 people who are successful professionally yet still find the time to give back to the community. This year, Gautam Godhwani, the co-founder and CEO of Simply Hired, made the cut.

Gautam is a serial entrepreneur, with Simply Hired being his third successful project. He left his first venture, AtWeb, in 2000 after the leading online services company was acquired by Netscape. Immediately after, he opened the India Community Center in Silicon Valley in 2003 which has grown to a 40,000 square foot, $17 million facility that supports community for over 150,000 people in the Bay Area with Indian heritage. The facility boasts more than 1,000 programs, including free legal and medical clinics.

And it doesn’t stop there. Four years ago, Gautam helped start a search engine aimed at created a better experience for job seekers. Desirable Companies for New MBAs

CNNMoney/ Fortune has released another ranking list, the Most Desirable MBA Employers for 2009. The list is made up of companies where MBA candidates say they would most like to work.

The companies that topped the list are:
1.    Google
2.    McKinsey & Company
3.    Bain & Company
4.    Goldman Sachs Group
5.    Apple

But here’s the best part: on the profile page of each the top 15 employers, there are listings of open jobs from Simply Hired at that respective company. Now MBA grads can see positions they can apply to at the companies they want to work for, and make their dreams come true!

2009 Fortune 500 list released

Recently, CNNMoney/ Fortune released the 2009 Fortune 500 list. With the current economic climate, there was a lot of movement and change between this year’s list and 2008. Over 40 companies were added to the 2009 list that were not included last year.

The companies that topped the list this year include:

1. Exxon Mobil
2. Wal-Mart Stores
3. Chevron
4. ConocoPhillips
5. General Electric
6. General Motors
7. Ford Motor
8. AT&T
9. Hewlett-Packard
10. Valero Energy

If you’re interested in working at one of the Fortune 500 companies, we have updated the Fortune 500 filter on SimplyHired.com to include the current list of the country’s largest companies. On any search results page, click “Fortune 500” under the Special Filters category of the filters to narrow down your results.

In addition, jobs at each of the companies that made the list are found in a widget on the side of the company profile pages CNNMoney/Fortune 2009 ranking site. For example, on the profile page for Northrop Grumman which came in at number 69 this year, you can see the Jobs box on the right of the page:

Gautam Honored on '40 Under 40' List

Our very own Gautam Godhwani, the co-founder and CEO of Simply Hired, was recently named to the Silicon Valley / San Jose Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 list! He was selected out of a pool of over 150 nominees consisting of the top business men and women in Silicon Valley. Those honored on the top 40 list represent a group of individuals who have made a significant impact on Silicon Valley, and all under the age of 40! The 40 Under 40 will be honored in a special publication of the journal on May 22.

Q1 2009 Job Trends Released

In Q1 of 2009, the Bureau of Labor Statistics showed an increase in the unemployment rate from 8.1 to 8.5 percent between January 1 and March 31, meaning more people vying for a limited number of positions. Here at Simply Hired, we wanted to investigate job trends by geography, industry and demand among job seekers to see what job seekers were looking for and where.

The Q1 job trends report found:

In addition, the top active job listings included keywords such as "part-time," "sales," "accounting" or "finance." Available jobs in Washington D.C. were up by 14 percent, with a smaller, yet still positive five percent upswing of available jobs in Boston and San Diego.

Readers of the Washington Post online will be happy to hear that washingonpost.com is combining forces with Simply Hired to create a powerful new jobs portal for job seekers from Alaska to Maine. The Washington Post is rolling out a National Jobs channel containing the Post’s already extensive job listings in the Washington D.C. Most Admired Companies

Today, CNNMoney / Fortune Magazine released their list of “World’s Most Admired Companies” and Simply Hired is helping people find jobs at the companies that made the list! Each profile includes a sampling of job listings at the respective company, making it easy for visitors to find jobs at these most admired companies.

The “Most Admired” list also has a number of side lists that incorporate job listings as well. These are the Best & Worst list by category (such as Innovation or Social Responsibility), a list of the Top Company in each sector (with Law jobs, Real Estate jobs and Entertainment jobs) and an Industries list where you can look up the best companies by industry (containing Computer Software jobs, Pharmaceuticals jobs, and Energy jobs).
