“It is very exciting to see 2012 come to a close with job openings up 10 percent year-over-year,” said James Beriker, president and CEO of Simply Hired. “Over the last year, we've seen job openings consistently climb while the ratio of unemployed persons to each job opening has held steady. These factors indicate that 2013 is setting up to be another year of positive and steady growth.”
Job openings increased in all 50 of the major metros in December. In addition, job competition held steady in 49 out of 50 major metros. More than half of all industries also significant job opening increases in December, with the non-profit and real estate industries showed the largest gains.
More than 80 percent of occupation categories experienced growth in job openings this month. Farm, fishing and forestry, personal care and service and construction and extraction experienced the largest amount of growth month-over-month.

These findings are part of Simply Hired’s January 2013 Employment Outlook, which highlights job industry and employer trends in national and regional U.S. markets.
