Today, Simply Hired reported in its November 2012 Employment Outlook that for the fifth time in six months the U.S. has experienced growth in job openings. In October, job openings increased 4.1 percent month-over-month and 8.0 percent year-over-year. Nationwide job competition held steady at a ratio of three unemployed persons for every one job opening.
“It is very encouraging to see that job openings have increased again this month, marking a steady growth trend in the right direction,” said Gautam Godhwani, co-founder and CEO of Simply Hired. “With the U.S. Presidential Election around the corner, Americans will be putting their bets on a leader for our nation who can continue to create economic growth.”
Job openings increased in all 50 of the major metros. Salt Lake City (8.8 percent) and Miami & Fort Lauderdale (7.8 percent) had the largest gains in October.
More than 80 percent of all occupation categories (15 out of 18) experienced growth in job openings. Law enforcement, fire and safety (14.4 percent) experienced the largest amount of growth and retail salespersons (10.2 percent) followed closely behind due to continued seasonal hiring.
