Looking for a job with a future? Here’s our latest pick:
Landscape Architect
What’s involved:
Beautiful spring days should be spent relaxing outside on the grass in city parks, on college quads, and company lawns. As a landscape architect, you create these picturesque settings.
As a landscape architect, you design the locations of pathways, flowers, trees, and green spaces that surround a building. Your goal? Make the environment both attractive and functional.
Your work could also take you outside the city limits. Some landscape architects help plan the restoration or conversation of natural spaces that are disturbed or damaged by construction, mining, or logging.
Why the job outlook is good:
Due to the growing rate of new construction projects and the rising demand for sustainable, eco-friendly design, the job outlook for landscape architects is sunny. This career field is expected to expand by 20%—much faster than average—by 2018.
What training you need:
Most people in this career have at least a Bachelor’s degree—usually in landscape architecture. In addition, almost every state in the nation requires you to pass an exam to obtain your license.
Show me the money!
The US Bureau of Labor Statistics puts the average salary of a landscape architect between $37,000 to $102,000.
