Using the Simply Hired Employment Trends tool, we’ve researched the trends in some of the top industries in the U.S. The healthcare industry increased the most over the past year and a half, with the retail industry in second. Accounting jobs decreased since July 2008, closely followed by manufacturing jobs.
Employment trends for major industries:
Healthcare jobs – up 38%
Retail jobs – up 27%
Banking jobs – up 20%
Marketing jobs – up 18%
Consulting jobs – no change
Finance jobs – down 22%
Manufacturing jobs – down 28%
Accounting jobs – down 32%
Within the healthcare industry, which had the highest increase in jobs since July 2008, some jobs fared better than others. Here is a sampling of healthcare job titles, and their respective employment trends:
Dental Assistant – up 185%
Pharmacy Technician – up 152%
Dentist – up 49%
Emergency Medical Technician – up 23%
Occupational Therapist – up 12%
Physical Therapist – no change
Physician Assistant – down 2%
Registered Nurse – down 14%
Optometrist – down 26%
Pharmacist – down 30%
