This year, the total cost of the gifts in the popular "12 Days of Christmas" song surpasses $21,000. That means purchasing 12 Drummers Drumming, 11 Pipers Piping, 10 Lords a’ Leaping, 9 Ladies Dancing, 8 Maids a’ Milking, 7 Swans a’ Swimming, 6 Geese a’ Laying, 5 Golden Rings, 4 Calling Birds, 3 French Hens, 2 Turtle Doves, and a Partridge in a Pear Tree would cost more than $21,000!
The cumulative costs of the items mentioned in the song have been used as a tongue-in-cheek economic indicator. Which begs the question: How are the workers behind the gifts faring this Christmas season?
SimplyHired.com compared employment trends and salaries for workers in the fields of the "12 Days of Christmas" and found that--while it's been a great year for a Partridge in a Pear Tree (Farmers), things have not been quite as nice for Six Geese a' Laying (Park and Recreation Directors).
