Talkin' 'bout My Jobs

We have taken the stars and made them shine! With Friday's site update, we introduced "My Jobs". The "My Jobs" page displays all the jobs you've rated on Simply Hired. It's a simple way to "bookmark" and save the jobs you want to come back to later. "My Jobs" also allows you to sort by rating, providing a way to, well, sort your jobs by ratings. It is helpful like that.

No more back button. Another Friday night inductee: Recent Searches. Your 10 most recent searches are conveniently displayed for you below the filters. Because we are also helpful like that.

And it isn't even May.

Sorry, I know we over do the "simply" thing, but I couldn't help it.

Every listing now has a "Who Do I Know" icon, powered by our friends over at LinkedIn. That's right boys and girls! When you see a job you are interested in, you can click on the "Who Do I Know" link and check out your contacts in the LinkedIn network. It's fast! It's easy! It's fun!

A Sprinkling of Features

Last night we threw caution to the wind and rolled-out a new set of features. Aside from Caution being a little miffed, the initial response has been favorable.

Here is what you will see if you haven’t yet visited our site:

• "My god, it's full of stars!" Yes, you can click on the stars. Use them to tell us how much you like a job. Or how relevant a result is to your search. Or as a complex semaphore system. It is your choice. They are the swiss army knife of your job search process, minus the pesky plastic toothpick.


• Instant Apply! Alongside some job listings you will see a little man with a checkmark on his chest. We call him Checky. While a great conversationalist, Checky is not as interesting as the link next to him: "Apply Now". This link will take you straight to the application form for that job. (We like to make things simple.)


• Name that tune. "We want to tune and tweak our search" you said. "No" we replied. But you were persistent, and we like to think we are good listeners. So on the left-side you will see a small set of filters, the first of what will be many ways to tune your search. Coming soon: more filters, advanced search and a rerun of that Knight Rider episode with Michael’s evil twin, Garth. (When was it deemed that all evil twins must sport goatees?)

If your favorite feature hasn't made it to our site yet, let us know. RSS and better searches are just 2 of the things we are working on. We are just getting started, and even the new features will be refined and reworked over the next few weeks. As always, we look forward to your feedback and input.

Saturday Night Not-So-Live

Um... looks like we're having some DB downtime currently.

We rolled out some cool new features last night, but seems like a few of our servers decided to let their hair down and party this evening.

We'll update the blog as soon as we're back up & rolling.

(* by the way -- if you're looking for a job on a Saturday night, we really think you may need to get out more often.)

UPDATE 10:42pm: we crashed the party, rudely tore the lampshade off our biggest DB server, and told him to get back to work. site is now back up & running. such spoil sports we are.
